Loretta Lavery is a Yoga Teacher and Exercise & Movement Instructor who works with a variety of students to teach the young and old how to keep active, be positive and enjoy life on and off the mat.
Loretta knows that being a good example, being positive and passing on her enthusiasm and knowledge is helping her students. This is the reason she loves teaching, as she can experience the difference it makes. Her style is a mixture - influenced by Iyengar giving focus on good alignment and using the breath. She gives her students personal attention, as every body is different and has different needs. She adds a little humour and a little softness even though some postures can be challenging. She feels that classes are a bit like having a nice time guiding friends.
Loretta started her career teaching ‘Slimnastics’ in 1979. This was an integrated approach to Exercise, Stress Management, Lifestyle & Relaxation plus Healthy Eating. This has evolved into ‘Shape & Tone exercise classes which are still running now at Northfields Community Centre, Ealing W13, and her oldest student was 94. In 2006 she qualified as a Yoga Teacher. Her first challenge was successfully teaching a Beginners Yoga course for women at the Mohammedi Park Community, Northolt. She went on to securing other Yoga classes which are still going, and deputising for 3 other Yoga teachers.
Loretta has been a member of the Register of Exercise Professionals since 2004. She regularly attends classes and workshops, studies books and magazines in order to update and keep up her knowledge.
